چکیده

The reactivity of phenol, lithium phenoxide (LiOPh), and sodium phenoxide (NaOPh) with the cyclic tetramer of bisphenol A polycarbonate (BPA-PC) has been investigated using density functional calculations. The potential energy of the system is computed using a suitable reaction coordinate and relaxing all other degrees of freedom by Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics. Both LiOPh and NaOPh catalyze ring opening with small energy barriers (∆E ) 4.0, 2.5 kcal/mol, respectively) to a chain with a phenyl carbonate at one end and a phenoxide at the other, a “living polymer”. The barrier is large for phenol (∆E > 40 kcal/mol), but the total energy differences between the reactants and the chain are very small in all three molecules. We discuss the balance between changes in entropy and energy, and we compute the vibrational properties of metastable intermediate species.

Density Functional Study of Reactions of Phenoxides with Polycarbonate

Density functional calculations with simulated annealing have been used to study the reactions of chains of bisphenol A polycarbonate (BPA-PC) with sodium phenoxide (NaOPh), diphenyl carbonate (DPC), and tetraphenylphosphonium phenoxide (PPh4OPh). These calculations extend our work on the reactions of LiOPh, NaOPh, and phenol with the cyclic tetramer of BPA-PC. We study, in particular, chain gr...

An insight into effect of surface functional groups on reactivity of Sphalerite (110) surface with Xanthate collector: a DFT study

The reactivity of the protonated and hydroxylated sphalerite (1 1 0) surface with xanthate was simulated using the density functional theory (DFT). The difference between the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the sphalerite surface and the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital of xanthate (  was used to compare the reaction capability of xanthate with fresh and fun...

Reactivity and aromaticity of hexasiline derivatives Si6XH5 (X = H, F, Cl, Br, COOH, NO2, NH2, CH3 and tBu)

During recent years, the silicon organic-inorganic compounds play the key role in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical industry. This is because of their similar chemical properties with carbon compounds. The second reason is related to their easy transfer from the cell membranes. So, molecular simulation and study the properties of novel organosilicon compounds can be more important. From th...

Geometric and Electronic Structures of Vanadium Sub-nano Clusters, Vn (n = 2-5), and their Adsorption Complexes with CO and O2 Ligands: A DFT-NBO Study

In this study, electronic structures of ground state of pure vanadium sub-nano clusters, Vn (n=2-5), and their interactions with small ligands for example CO and triplet O2 molecules are investigated by using density functional theory (DFT) calibration at the mPWPW91/QZVP level of theory. The favorable orientations of these ligands in interaction with pure vanadium sub-nano clusters were determ...

Theoretical Study of stereoelectronic effects of Boron Nitride Nanotubes in interaction with 7-hydroxy phenothiyazine 3-one sulphure dye by electron density functional theory

In this study interaction of phenothiazine sulfur dye with (5, 5) armchair open-end boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) in interaction (with a length of 7 Å) was investigated. The impacts of the estereoelectronic effect associated with donor-acceptor electron delocalizations, dipole-dipole interactions and total steric exchange energies on the structural and electronic properties and reactivity of ...
